Ever heard the Whigs? Plain and simple, these guys rock…
I grabbed their latest album, Give ‘Em All A Big Fat Lip, from eMusic a few months back after a friend caught them here in Chicago and gave them a solid recommendation. When I asked him what their sound was like, he said something like, “well, they kind of…..they just ROCK, I don’t know!”
And I have to say, I tend to agree. They’re just a raw, indie-rock trio from down South with some solid songwriting. They’ve got great energy, but I like the way they can also slow it down to a loping pace to keep it interesting. And for some reason, the lead singer reminds me of the guy from the Spin Doctors, but with a lot more grit and growl. The Whigs kick off their U.S. tour tonight in Athens, GA at the 40 Watt.
