Sturgill Simpson looks to have recovered fully from his coronavirus COVID-19 infection and he’s shared a brief clip on his Instagram showing himself in the studio with a new group of musicians. In the clip, he says to his fans to have their Zyrtec ready because they’re going to be “cuttin’ that grass!” Woah, he’s going bluegrass next?!
UPDATE: during his livestream from The Ryman on Friday June 5th, he said he would be cutting TWO LP’s this year based on the sessions he organized for this show.
Sturgill Simpson Shares Clip from Studio, Teases 2 New LP’s This Year During Livestream
According to Whiskey Riff, this is likely the plan.
Sturgill Simpson shared a video walking into the studio this morning with his drummer Miles Miller, producer David Ferguson, Tim O’Brien, Stuart Duncan, bassist Mike Bub, and more. And if you recognize any of those names, you know that Sturgill is about to make himself a bluegrass album…
Sadly the clip has been removed, but this is what the caption said:
Y’all raised a Scrooge McDuck pile of $$$ to help a lot people in need and I promised you a record this year.
So Im taking a detour from the five album plan to cut my entire back catalogue of songs for you guys the way they were written and meant to be played …

In the meantime lets all try to live above hell.#sturgillsimpson
