Aron Magner, keyboards/synths for the Disco Biscuits, has revealed and released a new solo project called SPAGA. If you’re unfamiliar, Magner took a few of his known compositions and brought them and stripped them down into a piano trio format which debuted earlier this year. The trio features Jason Fraticelli on bass and Matt Scarano on drums, two prominent Philadelphia-based jazz musicians in their own right. And today, they’ve put out their first release which you can stream below.
In their mailer to fans, Aron Magner had this to say: “The “Big Day” is here. What started out as a challenge by friends and musicians to make a ‘solo’ album has materialized into SPAGA’s Debut Release available today everywhere you consume music. One of the more intriguing parts about both the writing and making of this album was self discovery. It not only reconnected me to my first instrument, the piano, but also reconnected me to a previous version of myself.
Fans of the Disco Biscuits will undeniably like the compositional elements here, but any fan of a jazz groove trip will love this project.
He went to say that life, or this album, or whatever… “it’s all about journeys; each song here is an adventure, exploring paths we’ve never known. It’s a world to get lost in, knowing you’re never far from home.” He leaves the fans with a few links and says “have a listen to this album and let us know what type of journey it takes you on.”

They’ll be playing a few shows this summer/fall to celebrate the release and then move onto the boat to play Jam Cruise 2020.
