Trey Anastasio kicked off a mini acoustic tour last night in Mesa, Arizona and ended up immediately throwing back to this year’s Las Vegas run where the band introduced the world to Kasvot Växt. If someone had to call the opener last night and they threw out “Turtle in the Clouds” as the would-be kick off, I would have told them that they were crazy.
The setlist is below and even a stream from the show thanks to the crew at Jam.Buzz. I love to see proper Phish acoustic tracks like “The Inlaw Josie Wales” and “Brian and Robert” making the setlist, and frankly “Strange Design” and “Mountains in the Mist” have both easily unseated “Waste” as my favorite ballad tune that they do. (And even “Waste” makes an appearance in last night’s setlist!).
Everyone will be talking about the encore, though. Amazing that we got an Oysterhead tune, that side project with Les Claypool and Stewart Copeland that tons of fans want to see Trey bring back, and then a “Ghost > Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S.” sandwich before ending the show with “More”. We can’t wait to see what else Trey will come up with on this tour.
