Alex Lifeson, a legendary force in rock music for over five decades, is releasing two new singles entitled “Kabul Blues” and “Spy House” alongside the debut of his Alex Lifeson Les Paul Standard Axcess guitar. He designed the guitar with Epiphone in Nashville.
His first release in almost a decade, these instrumental singles feature bass playing by Andy Curran of Coney Hatch, and drummer David Quinton laid down the rhythm section for “Spy House,” according to Louder Sound. Lifeson plays all other instruments for the singles. You can listen to both songs on his website.
Lifeson is considered by many to be one of the best guitarists in the world and an innovator in the progressive rock guitar sound. His signature style includes heavy use of effects, and creative chord shapes. The other members of Rush referred to him as “The Musical Scientist.”
For his new Axcess guitar model, Lifeson is excited to unveil a guitar that is easy to use and practical. It includes magnetic and acoustic pickups and allows players to split the signals to mix between a classic magnetic tone and a realistic modern tone. “The look, the sound, the playability and the utility—it’s all there for the player—at any level,” says Lifeson. “I’m very proud of this guitar.”
