Is the ball in Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones’ court? In a quaint interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Robert Plant stated that he has “nothing to do in 2014,” opening up speculation that a Led Zeppelin reunion in the future is still possible.
Touching mainly on his life, time in Led Zeppelin, and his various solo efforts, Plant comes across as charming during the 16-minute interview. However, the real meat and potatoes comes in at around the 12-minute mark when the subject of the 2007 one-off-show and benefit concert for music exec Ahmet Ertegun, recently released on DVD as “Celebration Day”, comes into the conversation.
“[Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones] are Capricorns. They keep shtum. They don’t say a word. They’re quite contained in their own worlds and they leave it to me…to be the bad guy,” says Plant. He goes on to say, “I’m not the bad guy […] You need to see the Capricorns…I’ve got nothing to do in 2014.”
Back in December 2012, Jimmy Page did an in depth interview with Rolling Stone magazine in which he stated that in 2007 “some of us thought we would be continuing” on to tour. One can take away from this that he meant himself, Jones, and Jason Bonham, son of the late John Bonham, who had recently resigned his drumming duties for the band Foreigner, all in hopes of touring with Zeppelin. The fact did remain that Plant was legitimately busy with Allison Krauss and Union Station. Their Rising Sand album, produced by the great T. Bone Burnett, deserved every bit of acclaim it received. That was then, though, and this is now.
Mr. Robert Plant may have opened the rumor mill’s version of Pandora’s music box with his statements. Mr. Jimmy Page and Mr. John Paul Jones better step up to the plate here if past statements they’ve made are true, and Mr. Jason Bonhan…well, we know he’s got nothing better to do.
One question remains: Who’s talking to the Capricorns?
