Essence Festival in New Orleans announced their first major headliner today, and it’s none other than the Purple One himself. Prince will headline the 20th anniversary for the festival, which is set for the Superdome on the Fourth of July weekend, 2014. It seems a bit unlike him to stage a pure one-off here and he has been in a bit of a reinvention lately with his Pajama Parties and all.
Also part of his visit will be an “initiative” to help bring some money into New Orleans to get kids interesting in computers and new media. Very cool.
Additionally, Essence announced that they’ll partner with Prince on a community initiative led by the Rebuild the Dream Innovation Fund, which encourages young people to explore the fields of computer technology and media.
