Much like last year’s first Meters club show in NOLA in decades, a highly-anticipated late night show with The Meter Men (George Porter Jr., Leo Nocentelli and Zigaboo Modeliste) with Page McConnell was one of the toughest tickets of this year’s entire Jazz Fest run. Luckily for those in the Big Easy who missed out on catching the intimate show down at Republic, the band also appeared on the main Acura Stage on the Fest’s final day and the performance was broadcast on the new AXS.tv network. Continue below for a couple of fan-shot videos (thanks to @CHeeSeHeaDPRoDuCTioNS for uploading “People Say”) and a full gallery of excellent shots by international photographer extraordinaire Marc Pagani from the pit.
“The Meter Men have gone Phishin.” – Quint Davis introducing The Meter Men at Jazz Fest 2013
NOTE: Fans can look forward to new material on the horizon – according to an interview McConnell gave with Offbeat during Jazz Fest, “The Nocentelli-Porter-Modeliste trio are planning an album with rotating keyboardists including McConnell—and Neville, which means there’d be new music from the original Meters for the first time since 1977.”
