Phish just confirmed that they are reuniting for three shows at Hampton Coliseum on March 6-8, 2009. The band’s website has been updated to include a video of an artist drawing his likeness of the iconic venue with a clear message at the bottom:
Phish • Hampton
March 6•7•8 2009
The dates are booked and the hotels are already filling up for the weekend. Hell, the entire economy of Virginia is probably going to feel a boost from the band’s return. The entire nation of Phish fans are going to be trying to get into this show, myself included. I haven’t figured out where I’ll sleep but none of that matters. It’s time to surrender to the flow again. The band also made sure to mention that they plan to announce more dates during 2009 sometime early next year, so let the rumor mill start flying on what that could mean. Some people are saying that could mean a Bonnaroo appearance. That would be incredible.
“The Mothership” has been host to several incredible Phish runs in their storied history, including the shows in ’98 that lead to the Hampton Comes Alive box set release. I have very little doubt that this is the return to form of Phish that many people have been eagerly waiting for. Trey seems to have it back again, his mojo, his energy, his smile, his whatever it was that made him so magnetic. And he turned 44 yesterday. I’m thinking this might be a little birthday present to himself.
