The second night of Phish in Berkeley was absolutely off the hook.
Phish @ Greek Theatre, Berkeley, CA 8/6/10
Set I: Chalk Dust Torture, Guyute, Ocelot, It’s Ice, Cities > The Moma Dance > Bathtub Gin > Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan
Set II: Rock and Roll, Ghost > Mike’s Song > Simple > Backwards Down the Number Line, Show of Life, Seven Below -> Weekapaug Groove, You Enjoy Myself
Encore: Good Times Bad Times
“Guyute” was a confident version and definitely the only one I’ve seen that felt like it had the energy the song deserves. “It’s Ice” was a nice return to something classic after “Ocelot” slow bubbling jam, but “Cities > Moma” was the absolute highlight of set one. The funk built slowly and never really let up for that 15-20 minutes (resulting in Berkeley Jam #1). Second set was so much fun, too. The song flow and choice really seemed to fit that mix of old and new, giving the band new life in a Mike’s Groove that may see more new songs find their way into the middle than the classics. They really seem to be open to exploring this whole show segment now, and my first “Show of Life” was fitting even though I’m waiting for night three to effectively 100% blow the roof off that place.
Night two ripped. Hoping for a blast-off sorta night three….see you in the Pollock line today at about 11am.
