Phish has announced they will be releasing their August 1, 1998 show from Alpine Valley Music Center in East Troy, Wisconsin on their LivePhish app this Friday, June 19th, a heavily-traded tape and show that has probably made it in your orbit at some point over your fandom.
For this show and a lot of the tour in 1998, Phish chose some newer and more adventurous covers and kicked off the show with Led Zeppelin‘s “Ramble On” which got the crowd revved up fast. I remember this being one of the first shows I searched for when I got a DSL internet connection, and the Jane’s Addiction cover of “Been Caught Stealing” to close the show is another obvious standout (not to mention the “Tweezer” jam).
Check out the setlist from the show via Phish.net:
SET 1: Ramble On[1] > Mike’s Song -> Esther > Weekapaug Groove, Guyute, Fikus, Birds of a Feather, Lawn Boy > Funky Bitch
SET 2: Piper > Wilson > Also Sprach Zarathustra -> Magilla > Also Sprach Zarathustra > Tweezer > Fluffhead, Brian and Robert > Albuquerque > Chalk Dust Torture, Frankenstein
ENCORE: Been Caught Stealing[1] > Tweezer Reprise
[1] Phish debut.
Tune into the band’s SiriusXM station for highlights this week.
