With “Sea of Voices”, Porter Robinson has made a glorious departure from his incessant club anthems of yesteryear. Light and airy from the start, this track is more than atmospheric —- it is ethereal. Closed-minded, kandi-wearing dubsteppers will complain that Robinson has abandoned his style completely. Au contraire! Robinson is just now settling into his element. And bravo for him to creating authentic music from his soul, free from the confines of what the industry is expecting.
The melodic power of his past hits compliment the expertly-crafter layers of cinematic sound. Elegant, emotional and contemplative, “Sea of Voices” builds organically to the three-minute mark, where the song swells into it’s grand finale cadence. This will be the theme song that plays the moment I learn how to fly. Give it a listen and I know you’ll see what I’m saying. (Oh by the way, Porter Robinson turned 21 in July. What are you doing with your life?)
