With New Orleans Jazz Fest kicking off today, the city of NOLA is coming alive in the spirit of music. I seriously wish I was down there this year but alas it was not in the cards. Now I only have Instagram or Facebook to keep me green with envy (sooooo many po’ boy photos!). For those of us not there and bored over the weekend, or for those of us that are there and perhaps need something to help nurse that hangover before you head back out onto the racetrack, check out this amazing new search engine released by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation Archive. It allows users to search for artists that have played the festival over the years starting back in 1970.
This database was compiled from the Jazz Fest Program Books and lists every performer at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival beginning in 1970.
Over the years Stage names have changed and even Performers have altered the spelling of their names (Dixie Cups vs. Kups) . Please be mindful of these variations and make your search as simple as possible. Also note there are often last minute schedule changes and those changes from the pre-digital era may not be noted. Questions and comments can be sent to archive@jazzandheritage.org
This is awesome…
