The New Mastersounds kick off a set of shows tonight in Portland, Maine and I’ll be seeing the band tomorrow StageOne @ Fairfield Theater Company. They’ve been a bit busy prepping for 20th year as a band, so if you are looking to get them anything special as a gift, keep an eye out for their forthcoming album called Shake It via Color Red, due out on Friday September 13th.
If at least one million copies are sold, it will reach Platinum Status…which just so happens to be the 20 year anniversary symbol. Coincidence or prophesy? Preorder is underway here.
Earlier this month, the funk group released a 7″ self-titled single called “Shake It”, which features soulful singer and bassist Lamar Williams Jr.
And yes, this young man is following in the footsteps of his father, the late great Lamar Williams of The Allman Brothers Band and Sea Level. Side B includes a collab with Thievery Corporation drummer Jeff Franca on “Permission to Land.”
Just yesterday they released their first single/digital track off of Shake It, titled “Let’s Go Back” which also features Lamar Williams Jr. You can give it a whirl below.
NMS kicks off their spring tour TONIGHT in Portland, ME with support by Dominic Lavoie and their set will include Lamar. While NMS have always been sure to make a stop here in Connecticut, specifically at Fairfield Theater Company, this is the first time in four years they return to the more quaint StageOne. INTIMATE FUNK PARTY? YES PLEASE!!
Their tour continues throughout the summer and into the fall with many recently added dates across the US. Be sure to catch them while they are so, so hot. You can get tickets for their dates here.
