There are a only a handful of musical acts the fine folks down in the Big Easy would refer to as a living institution. Dr. John, The Meters, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, The Neville Brothers, Allen Toussaint and Irma Thomas immediately come to mind as Big Easy artists and bands still touring today deserving of such a lofty moniker. Over the past 25 years, Rebirth has established themselves amongst these ranks, and, in the process, have laid down a number of right-on party tunes that have helped form the modern-day soundtrack for America’s beloved and fertile-as-ever Crescent City. The band arrives to town on a hot streak – 2012 has been a banner year for Rebirth who have been riding a funky wave of momentum ever since picking up their first GRAMMY earlier this year for Best Regional Roots Music Album for their latest LP Rebirth of New Orleans. Having picked up their hardware at the Staples Center, the band has surely developed a special spot in their hearts for L.A. and are set to make a big return on Thursday night. Just make sure you arrive early to get a good spot. A legendary band in a legendary venue, should be one helluva party.
