Similar to the hype surrounding Halloween shows, many bands invest a lot of time and energy into throwing big, extravagent New Year’s Eve shows for their fans. These shows are normally treats for hometown crowds, and most often the bands really try to put something special into the event that you would never experience again. After all, it’s New Year’s Eve [Insert Year Here] only once and some bands know how to make it a night to remember…

I’ve seen UM on New Year’s Eve for the past three years — 2003 @ the Vic, 2004 @ the Riv, and 2005 @ the Aragon — and I’ve had an incredible time each year. Their 2004 NYE show actually got the full DVD treatment in the form of their Wrapped Around Chicago DVD. In spite of all of that, I’m not sure if I’ll be attending year — it might be time to try something new…

I guess the same guys that put on the annual Burning Man festival are behind the SCI NYE party, and per the JamBase comments on the subject, it’s the sickest NYE party on the West coast, brosef!
I’ll be honest, though — String Cheese Incident just doesn’t really do it for me. I’ve seen them at festivals once or twice and I’ve never been blown away. Their techno-rock-crappy_covers-meets-bluegrass just doesn’t really wax my buttons, and seriously, don’t get me started on their name…
Tea Leaf Green – East Coast NYE 2006
The new jamband in the room is taking their show to the East coast (as always) and they’ve got a solid four-night run planned for their fans…
12.28 | Mexicali Blues | Teaneck, NJ
12.29 | The State Theatre | Falls Church, VA
12.30 | Rams Head | Annapolis, MD (acoustic)
12.31 | TLA | Philadelphia, PA (with The Brakes)
Or wait, that’s four different shows in four different states — hardly a run as they like to say…[via JamBase]
There’s tons of other great bands that are putting together NYE show details as I type this…
Yonder Mountain String Band in Denver, Disco Biscuits in Philly, Greyboy Allstars in D.C., STS9 in Atlanta, etc. etc. — the list goes on and on…
What are your NYE plans?
