Some new fire just dropped today from Kamasi Washington, a new track called “Truth” that is set for release off a new upcoming EP set for release this summer. The 14 minute movement is accompanied by a short film from director A.G. Rojas.
Love that his tracks are called “movements” and his music videos are called “films” — this dude is on that next level like that. Been a huge fan of his stuff since I first caught his name after collab-ing with the Flying Lotus / Thundercat crew over at Brainfeeder, so it’s a bit of a surprise that he’s officially signed via Young Turks records, home to other artists like The xx, Sampha & FKA Twigs.
Here’s a bit more about the short film that debuted the track…
Harmony of Difference, an original six-movement suite, premiered as part of this year’s Whitney Biennial alongside a film by Rojas also featuring artwork by Washington’s sister Amani Washington.
Harmony of Difference explores the philosophical possibilities of the musical technique known as “counterpoint,” which Washington defines as “the art of balancing similarity and difference to create harmony between separate melodies.”
Some of the images from the film are really captivating…
Definitely give the entire thing a listen and a watch.
