In a much hyped event Jill Scott and Erykah Badu took part in a Verzuz battle on Instagram Live.
The “battle” ended up flowing more like two friends trading songs they love. Erykah, up first in each round, seemed to have a strategy and consideration for what she was playing in what order. Jill was playing from her iPhone, and much more casual in her choices. She also often played the entire track, which technically goes against Verzuz rules, but no one complained. [Billboard]
They had announced that Michelle Obama was tuned into the event when I joined, and they have some other friends along for the ride as well.
Queen Latifah, Ashanti, Ludacris, E-40, Fat Joe, Virgil Abloh, Missy Elliott, Pharoahe Monch, Nas and NBA legend Isaiah Thomas were a few of the many celebrities tuning in and thanking both women for their providing a “relaxing” environment — especially during a week when Uptown Records founder Andre Harrell and Little Richard both passed away.
