On a new interview clip just published at Pitchfork, you can see Wilco frontman and songwriter Jeff Tweedy talk about a song he wish he wrote, namely a track from Chicago band Souled American called “Before Tonight.”
Never heard of them? Yep, neither had I, and he sorta makes that part of his catalyst for the decision of highlighting them. In the interview, he gives us a little context on what they were like and how Jim O’Rourke was the one that probably played him the song first. Interesting chat, for sure. I’m definitely going to check them out given that I’ve got Chicago roots deep and I’m obviously a fan of what Tweedy puts out.
Here’s the original.
