The free shows that accompany the annual Green Apple Music Festival were just announced, and there’s some serious mix in the lineups between the eight cities taking part in this year’s Earth Day / Green Apple celebration. New York has Ricky Scaggs & Kentucky Thunder, Chicago has Derek Trucks Band and M’shell Ndegeocello, Dallas has Los Lonely Boys, San Francisco has Mickey Hart, and so on. The real big WTF moment will likely occur when you read the lineup and realize that Menudo is headlining the Miami portion of the festival; no word yet on whether Ricky Martin is going back in time to become a prepubescent child to rejoin the group. We’ll keep you posted on that one.
The real star-studded set of artists looks to be booked in Washington, D.C. at the National Mall; The Roots, Gov’t Mule, Toots & the Maytals, Thievery Corp (DJ’s), Warren Haynes (solo acoustic) and Umphrey’s McGee are all set to play there for free. I’ll be planning on attending the Chicago portion of this — hardly as exciting for me musically as the D.C. event would be — but I’m torn because The Mars Volta and Kraftwerk are both playing in the area that night. Decisions, decisions…
The initial musical line-up has been announced for eight major Earth Day events by Earth Day Network and Green Apple Festival presented by Chase. Across the country on Sunday April 20th, an eclectic line-up of artists will perform in landmark parks in eight cities. The events will combine environmental addresses by prominent speakers, the presence of a wide variety of environmental organizations and educational displays on the theme of environmental awareness.
Read on for the full lineup by city; speaker announcement will probably come soon. Who’s got my Al Gore predictions?
