Goose has released a single for Secretly Canadian’s 25th Anniversary compilation, a groovy cover of Nina Simone’s classic, “Sinnerman.” I know the band recently worked it into a show during their 2021 tour, and I never got around to listening to that tape so I’m glad this dropped.
Their rework of the song, made famous by Nina Simone, radically transforms its gospel origins to something far more contemporary. A dancey groove battles with mathy guitar that places the song in a singular sonic space somewhere between Rüfüs Du Sol and Foals.
Guitarist Rick Mitarotonda said “Nina Simone’s take on ‘Sinnerman’ has been a point of inspiration for many years. We’ve been wanting to play it for a while, and this seemed like a perfect opportunity. We’re honored to be a part of this compilation and be involved in the great cause behind it.”
Head over to Bandcamp to give it a purchase or tune into streaming services this Friday when it drops everywhere.
