They’re called GoGo Penguin, and if you’re not a fan yet, you will be soon.
The trio takes the jazz trio format and extends it into vibes and sounds that don’t come from the traditional jazz songwriters. Instead they’re fusing electronics and hip hop with the usual piano-drums-upright combo, something that’s already earned them a Mercury Prize nomination and a spot on the legendary Blue Note records.
My buddy Pete recently caught the show in New York City where they State-side debuted their original score to the seminal classic film, Koyaanisqatsi.

Turns out this isn’t a brand new thing for the trio, as they’ve been playing it out on select dates closer to their hometown across the pond.
At press time the band will be doing another one of these in the UK this week, but it’s sold out. Keep up on GoGo Penguin here.
