Last night at Phases of the Moon Festival featured a scary moment that fans were privy to as it unfolded onstage. As Widespread Panic was finishing up the festival with a headlining set, a fan hopped on stage and proceeded to try and interact with the band before the stage crew rushed on to usher him off, not before he ran over to the drummer’s throne and hit him with a stick.
Here’s the description from the YouTube vid that captures the incident:
show is sunday 9/14/2014 @ the phases of the moon festival in danville, IL. this psychopath grabs a pair of sticks and whacks todd nance in the face. todd is clearly upset about this and walks off stage while security drags this punk off stage. jojo saves the day by playing an impromptu “help me somebody” would like to find out or discuss the motive of such a thoughtless move. he deserves assault charges and to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. feel free to discuss this here in the comments section or on other message boards.
You hear the crowd shouting obscenities like “kick his ass” so it must not have been too scary for the audience, but it noticeably shakes up the band and they take a minute or two to get into “Help Me Somebody” to cleanse the demons from the stage before continuing.
