Sad news for West Coast fans hoping to see the return of D’Angelo in fine form at this year’s Outside Lands — he’s announced that his upcoming dates are cancelled and they’re replacing him on the lineup with CHIC with superstar producer Nile Rodgers.
Due to a medical emergency, D’Angelo will be unable to perform at Outside Lands this Friday. He expresses his sincere regret due to this unfortunate circumstance. Festival promoters are pleased to announce that CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers will take his slot closing the Sutro Stage.
CHIC is a party band and the finest purveyor of uptown disco and downtown funk. Co-founder Nile Rodgers has an extraordinary history of collaborations as producer and performer with many artists including Madonna, David Bowie’s most successful album Let’s Dance and, most recently, Daft Punk.
Not surprising, Daft Punk rumors are now top of mind for those of us wishfully thinking we may be in the audience when the first 2013 appearance of Daft Punk happens live on stage. We’re not putting money down on it yet, but we’re obviously going to be skipping Stanton Warriors and Wavves to make sure we have a good spot for the disco vibes (and potentially the most-epic-sit-in-ever if the Robots make an appearance).
