Here it is, folks! The lineup you’ve all been waiting for — no, I’m not talking to you, LA hipsters — has finally been released!
The team behind Bonnaroo Music Festival revealed their lineup over a slow-as-hell three-hour period online today featuring a cute social media campaign where ‘Roo fans got to release the artist names themselves after calling a hotline. Personally, I couldn’t watch — I just waited until all the craziness ended and left us with this:
Your eyes doth not deceive you: that is Billy Joel, Mumford & Sons, and deadmau5 at the top of the billing as the first three headliners, followed up closely by Kendrick Lamar, Florence + The Machine, Robert Plant & the Sensational Shape Shifters, My Morning Jacket, Bassnectar, and Alabama Shakes. Variety is truly the spice of life, my friends.
Let’s see, who else do we have who I’d be excited about…besides Slayer, of course.
Flume is close to the top of the lineup on this festival, which officially means he’s probably already bigger more quickly than anyone thought possible for the wünderkid from Down Under. Is future bass the new dubstep?! We’ll just have to wait and see. The War on Drugs and STS9 are not too far behind, which is exactly where I’d expect to see both of them after the amazing 2014 both bands laid down. Nice to see that the Atomic Bomb! Band (Who is William Onyeabor?) will be returning; let’s hope they tap David Byrne and Sinkane for some sit-ins elsewhere around the festival. And don’t be surprised if Tears for Fears blow people away with their covers of Animal Collective’s “My Girls” and Arcade Fire’s “Ready to Start” — either one can easily be your festival highlight if you let it.
Flying Lotus will be there, but also Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood. Tycho will be there (sunrise set?!), and also jammy up-and-comers Dopapod. Finally, newcomers like Sylvan Esso and Glass Animals are perfectly placed here as well, somewhere in between the Jungle funk and the Mac DeMarco vibes.
