Apple has announced an upgrade to their ever-present iPod device, the thing that basically changed music as we know it.
The new iPod touch gets some upgrades in power, speed and communication options at the lower end of the price spectrum for any Apple product. And congrats to SASAMI on getting that screenshot bump in the image above that accompanied the announcement.
Here’s some of the nerd stuff that came with the announcement:
The Apple-designed A10 Fusion chip brings improved performance in games, and for the first time on iPod, immersive augmented reality (AR) experiences and Group FaceTime, making it easy to chat with family members, friends or colleagues simultaneously.

“We’re making the most affordable iOS device even better with performance that is twice as fast as before, Group FaceTime and augmented reality starting at just $199,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing. “The ultra-thin and lightweight design of iPod touch has always made it ideal for enjoying games, music and so much more wherever you go.”
As for the music specs, there will now be a 256GB capacity device with plenty of space for the music you’ve downloaded or any podcasts or whatnot you want store offline. And of course they’re closely intertwined in with Apple Music as the strong selling point to get this device, no need for apps or any other music subscriptions, etc.
The new iPod touch is available to order on apple.com and in the Apple Store app starting today and in stores later this week.
