Happy Cinco De Mayo, dudes! I’m just hanging out in my living room, writing some blog posts and jamming to an Animal Collective live show on my stereo system. Just as this exact version “Brother Sport” started, I get an email from NPR Music announcing that their next live webcast on Monday, May 11th will feature none other than Animal Collective themselves. This isn’t the first time that they’ve brought their entire live set to NPR’s webcast (and subsequent podcast). The first set back in 2007 featured a lot of the songs off Merriweather Post Pavilion in their early forms, and it’s a solid show front to back that I still listen to from time to time. I’ve seriously been obsessed with this band for the past two years or so.
When the enigmatic rock group Animal Collective released Merriweather Post Pavilion in January, it immediately became an early frontrunner for 2009’s best record. Months later, it remains the year’s most wildly imaginative release, with a strangely infectious stew of tribal rhythms, pulsing synths and shimmering vocals. Animal Collective stops by Washington, D.C., for a full concert on Monday, May 11 — a show webcast in its entirety at NPR Music. The performance from the 9:30 Club will begin streaming live online at approximately 10 p.m. ET.
I’ll get a chance to see them when they come to Oakland’s Fox Theater at the end of May. Read on for all of their current dates booked.
