The rumors started flying a few weeks ago that Radiohead would be headlining Goldenvoice festival taking place right outside Manhattan. The tips turned out to be extremely true; Radiohead plans on turning the lights off for the All Points West Music & Arts Festival on both Friday and Saturday nights. After today’s initial artist announcement, Jack Johnson will headline Sunday night and in between there will be 40+ bands on three different stages located in Liberty State Park. Some of the highlights are Kings of Leon, Animal Collective, Chromeo, The Black Angels, and The Black Kids.
The ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL LINE-UP (as of 2/21) is as follows: Radiohead, Jack Johnson, Underworld, Kings of Leon, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Cat Power, The Roots, The New Pornographers, Youssou N’Dour, Animal Collective, Andrew Bird, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Metric, CSS, Girl Talk, Chromeo, The Go! Team, Amadou & Mariam, The Black Angels, Sia, The Felice Brothers, K’Naan, Jason Isbell, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Alberta Cross, The Virgins, Black Kids, Mates of State, Duffy, Forro in the Dark, Nicole Atkins, Juana Molina, Little Brother, Rogue Wave, Neil Halstead and Your Vegas
I think what may turn out to be the best part about this festival is Goldenvoice’s commitment to making this a moderately sized festival where a fan can see the bands that they want to see without having to choose one or another. Its location, which is practically in NYC, is choice as well. Lollapalooza, another festival with a city locale, brings with it some really nice late night acts and parties throughout the entire weekend. I have no doubts that bands of all shapes and sizes will flock to the Five Burroughs to show their stuff.
The lineup is very much a mixed bag of indie, electronic, low-fi folk, and good old rock and roll. The festival is being set up as a “green” environment and a portion of the ticket proceeds will go towards “Friends of Liberty State Park.” Tickets go on sale next Friday 2/29 through Ticketmaster and will run you $289 for a three-day pass or $89 each respective day. Start saving your rubles and get your tickets early, rumor has it that there are only around 40K for sale.
