Last night at the Grammys, the larger music industry celebrated the Dixie Chicks’ bitch-slap to the President, the Police’s reunion, the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Stadium Arcadium, and the legacies of the Grateful Dead, Ornette Coleman and James Brown, among many other artists and bands. If you’re interested, here’s the full list of winners.
Anybody watch it? Did the Police sound good to you? Did Gnarls Barkley get screwed? Do you care? Either way, Bob Lefsetz’s typically salty rant is a must-read.
If you don’t give a s*** about the Grammys, you might be more interested in the PLUG awards, which took place last night at Irving Plaza in New York City and was hosted by comedian David Cross. The PLUGs celebrated the best of the “indie music scene” and the winners included independent atrists like: the Arctic Monkeys (new artist of the year), Band of Horses (album of the year), Broken Social Scene (best live act), Neko Case (female artists of the year) and Yo La Tengo (best indie rock album).
The BrooklynVegan (PLUG winner for best music blog) has a solid run-down of the event, and the full list of winners is at the PLUG site. Any of you New Yorkers make it to the PLUGs? Anyone care?
