Taylor Swift fans have banded together to sue Ticketmaster over its failed November 15 ticket on-sale for her upcoming Eras Tour (via Deadline).
The fans collective are suing the company for “fraud, price-fixing, and antitrust violations,” accusing it of “intentional deception” that allowed scalpers to buy most of the tickets.
Via Rolling Stone:
In addition to Ticketmaster controlling the primary ticket market, the suit alleges its expansion into the secondary ticket market along with the company’s agreements with stadiums “force fans to buy more expensive tickets that Ticketmaster gets additional fees from every time the tickets are resold.”
Via Consequence of Sound:
According to the plaintiffs, Ticketmaster was supposed to send out “Verified Fan” pre-sale codes on November 14th, the day before the pre-sale began. However, fans allege they didn’t receive said codes, opening the doors for bots and scalpers to buy and resell the tickets. The more insidious side of the lawsuit implies that Ticketmaster intended for scalpers to do just that, opening the door for the company to then collect additional fees each time the tickets entered new hands.
