The heat is on right now — everybody at the festival is milling about, eating food, drinking water — just trying to get ready for the day of music ahead…
On Friday, I caught Backyard Tire Fire’s set at 12:00pm, Rose Hill Drive’s set at 3:30pm, more than half of the Disco Biscuits set at 4:30-6:00, then watched the two set, three hour Umphrey’s McGee main stage sets before it was time for me to retire. It was warm yesterday for sure, but the weather has been absolutely stunning and the music has been great so far. The bathrooms have been totally dirty and disgusting, and the cleanings has been too few and far between instances — it’s quite a site to see lines forming and people saying “don’t go in there…” to many of the stalls of choice. Mmmmm…doesn’t that just make you hungry!
Rose Hill Drive was quite cool, as I had never heard one minute of their music before their hour-long set. I was glad I caught it, though. They’ve got a great energy and sound for a trio — you gotta love those power trios — and I’d definitely want to get a sample of their music for future listening. Disco Biscuits were great as always. Umphrey’s McGee’s sets were okay — certainly not the best two sets I’ve ever seen — but I was still abundantly happy and content while deciding to end the night on that…
Our group is having a great time. We had one of those “should we camp in this sweet spot even though no one else is because there must be something wrong it” situations where someone even told us we should move from our camping spot. We were already an hour into setting up, so we decided to stick it out and it’s paid off in the end. Truly.
Today, it’s going to be Tea Leaf Green > Rusted Root > Keller > Brothers Past > moe. and I’m looking forward to it. Tell me that’s not epic!
Digital and scanned photos to come…
