Fare Thee Well: Bob Weir and Trey Anastasio Check In With The New Yorker

The New Yorker caught up with Bob Weir on his recent trip to New York City to rehearse with Trey Anastasio ahead of the Fare Thee Well run coming up later this month, and they detailed out just how serious Trey is taking the rehearsals, including even hiring someone to help him chart out the songs.
Anastasio said. “I’m doing this because I don’t want to be the problem. Bob and I joked that the first song I sing ought to be ‘Dire Wolf,’ which has the chorus ‘Don’t murder me.’ ”
Also interesting was the fact that Weir gives out another set of tempered expectations for folks expecting the band to play all five hours at each show…
On the tour, the band will probably play eighteen songs in a show, Weir said. “Most nights, the stadiums are giving us five hours, but I’m not sure we’re going to last for five hours,” he said. “Even back in the late sixties and early seventies, we didn’t play for five hours on many nights, despite being famous for doing that. You do it one time, and you get famous for it.”
