Herbert Wiser Band Gets a Bump
Speaking of Tea Leaf Green in Chicago…
Herbert Wiser Band, an unknown Chicago rock band (with some jammy sensibilities), will be opening up for Tea Leaf Green on June 6, 2006 at the Redstone Room in Davenport, IA. Well, big deal right?
Would you believe it if I told you that I was actually the drummer for Herbert Wiser Band about a year and a half ago? I wouldn’t believe it either, but it’s certainly true.
It’s funny how life can work out…
I start a music blog and rediscover something within me that was missing throughout college. I join Herbert Wiser Band. Herbert Wiser Band wants me to quit my job and become a starving artist in order to give 110% to the band. I quit Herbert Wiser Band. I recruit a writer that becomes obsessed with Tea Leaf Green. I start liking Tea Leaf Green. Herbert Wiser Band gets an opening slot for Tea Leaf Green in Davenport, IA.
Crazy.
Rob’s got me on that one…
I ended up quitting the job because it was sucking my will to live. I blog for three months while my former company pays my salary. I get a new job where they embrace bloggin’ and the future of web publishing. I start liking Tea Leaf Green a lot. I see them three times in as many months…
What else am I missing?
OH yeah…
I grew a beard. My hair got long like Trey’s. I buzzed my head. I kept my beard. I went to Europe…
hey justin…. didn’t you end up quitting that job anyways???
They will strike a chord soon — I promise.
Me and zzyzx exchanged a couple emails a while back on how if you entered the scene through the Dead, you’re more inclined to love Tea Leaf Green, Railroad Earth, SCI (of the newer blood), but if you came in through Phish, you’re probably more of an UM, Bisco fan…
We need to do a big blog post on that to really get the discussion going. I need to stop sleeping. :)
Haha…nice! Yes, I know you’re an Umphreak..I don’t know what it is but these guys still haven’t managed to strike a chord in me…but I haven’t given up…I’ll never give up on ’em. Hmmm, maybe I will introduce them to my daughter…she’ll probably dig ’em.
Ace: yeah that writer was terrible — it’s a shame he’s selling oranges on the side of the freeway now. Oh well…
Rich: now just add some UM to your daughter’s mix and we’ll have the future of the jamband community poised to take over for us geezers in a couple years. A man can dream…
life is silly like that, huh?
Great story, Justin! And you’re right, Ace is obsessed…and that’s me standing right next to him..also obsessed. And not only that…I got my innocent little 5 yr old daughter obsessed too! She walks around the house singing, “gotta little bit a soul, gotta little bit a rock’nroll in my bones…”
Life is absurd. :)
That writer sucked. You’re better off without ’em.
Funny stuff, though. Life is absurd.
