Cold Turkey Turns 50
This just came over from Mike at Relix and I’m quite impressed…
Relix’s official podcast, Cold Turkey, celebrates its 50th episode by unearthing exclusive live cuts from the Grateful Dead’s vault. Handpicked by David Lemieux himself, these five songs represent the best of the Dead, from “Eyes of the World” to “Terrapin Station” (and some choice cuts in-between) (www.relix.com/radio)
50 Podcasts! Dang! These guys keep churning out quality show after quality show, especially after putting the festival circuit artists up on a couple various podcasts this season thus far. Expect those to continue and check out their 50th. Shoot Mike some love, too. Everyone needs some love.
Here’s the setlist…
- “Eyes of the World -> China Doll” – Grateful Dead, 10/29/73
- Cold Turkey 50th episode commentary
- “Terrapin Station” – Grateful Dead, 11/6/79
- “Scarlet Begonias” – Grateful Dead, 10/3/76
- Cold Turkey commentary
- “Shakedown Street” – Grateful Dead, 6/22/91
great terrapin station, overall A++ for this podcast

I still think it’s relevant that they’ve gotten David Lemieux to pick the songs — previously unreleased I would assume (as it is Mr. Dicks Pick’s style) — for a podcast that no one else is really doing. Sure, there’s Dead podcasts out there but I still think it’s something to bring to the forefront — the iTunes podcast crowd, if you will.

As much as I love the Grateful Dead, I feel there’s enough free shows to download, Dead Hours, and cover bands that a podcast seems a bit weak at this technological moment.

I definitely have not paid enough attention to “Eyes Of The World” in the past. That is a great song.
