I’ve been pretty introspective lately. Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve been spending more time at home relaxing, working on my pet projects, working out, and just taking it easy all around. I know that’ll change pretty quickly, but in the meantime…
I wake up this morning to a memory of my better half and I slowly driving through the Smoky Mountain National Park near Gatlinburg, TN. The winding road and the fact that I was driving a manual transmission car after only learning the stick-shift the month before really kept my driving slow and reserved.
I had a DJ Saxton demo disc, An Eastern Perspective, playing in the background as we looked on and drove through the smoky frosted mountains. DJ Saxton, while remaining pretty silent and distant from the scene in the past few years, was actually one of the STS9 Crew DJ’s with MC Scotty for a while back in the day (you know, 2001). When I saw him spin for the first STS9 show I saw back in 2002, I was blown away and I had to get at least some of his stuff to listen to…
We’re chilling and the volume is relatively low on the first two tracks posted below. On Track 7 of the demo, though, there’s something that just kinda jumps out as odd. At least, when we heard it, we weren’t thinking it was odd. We just completely started cracking up. It felt like it came out of nowhere. It’s like, we turned around to see if someone was in our backseat screaming and yelping until we realized that we could probably use a good dose of that Eastern perspective that DJ Saxton was striving to create. Good times.
If you’ve never listened to this mix, it’s must-hear in my opinion and still stands up.
