Marco Benevento just released a new album digitally called Invisible Baby, one that I spent last night listening to front-to-back twice.. I’m listening to it again right now, actually. It’s incredible. Except for the first half of “The Real Morning Party,” but the breakdown at the end is damn infectious.
For the most part, the album should be a killer lead-in to some interesting tour dates that Marco’s booked on the East and West coasts. In February on the East, Marco will be playing with Reed Mathis, from just-joined Tea Leaf Green fame, and Andrew Barr, the fantastic drummer from The Slip. In May on the West, the drumming duties will be done by Matt Chamberlain (Tori Amos) with Mathis to follow right along.
Here’s a free mp3 from the new album:

I believe Hidden Track is still giving away tickets for next week’s show in New York — they’ve been all over the NYC residency shows he’s about to finish up — and the tour starts immediately following the upcoming Tea Leaf Green tour dates. Check it.

I might actually be shooting for the May 6 show in San Francisco. I imagine I’ll be spending some more time out there for work in the very near future. I wouldn’t mind seeing him in Chicago either (hint, hint — book more dates)…
Anyone pick up the album yet? Holler in the comments if you’re into this stuff; I personally think this guy keeps releasing music that’s really progressing instrumental rock and jazz forward into a killer new fusion that no one can quite define yet. If this is post-jam, I like it. And I’m really glad to have already registered that domain.

Yes, I really am that much of a nerd.
