(updated on 3.20.07)
Back in ’06, the Arctic Monkeys made headlines by blowing up the UK charts largely via Internet promo on MySpace and playing catchy, bombastic brit-rock.
As previously mentioned, their third release, called Favourite Worst Nightmare, is out April 23rd (though it looks like tracks are already leaking onto the Hype Machine). The new record may just kick some serious butt judging by this first single, for which they’ve released a video on YouTube:
This song kicks some booty (and apparently shakes some booty too)! I dig it, though not quite as much as some of the tracks from their debut.
The Arctic Monkeys have set up a solid run of tourdates in the U.K. and the U.S. in March and April, including a stop at Coachella. They’re also testing out an innovative way of selling tickets to fans for their U.K. tour. In order to allow “everyone to have the best and equal chance,” they’re distributing tickets through a lottery system to fans who have pre-registered online. Cool idea, and something I’d love to see more bands try out on our side of the pond.

I might have to squeeze into the Riv and finally test out the hype. Looks like tickets for the U.S. dates are now on sale, and the pre-sale password is “brianstorm” (thanks BrooklynVegan!) . The band is also slated for several dates throughout the British Isles in April and some European festivals later this summer.
