At this past summer’s 11th Annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, organizers, as they’ve done for a few past Superjams, left the Superjam’s main attraction as a big mystery until the band took the stage. D’Angelo lead Questlove and a polished backing band on a Prince cover. The Manchester, TN performance marked D’Angelo’s first time performing on an American stage in 12 years. Bonnaroo’s 365 Channel on YouTube released the mini-documentary today that leads the viewer from New York City (with Questo in a cab) down to the pre-show on the farm and finally on to the stage for the big moment when the band opens with The Purple One’s “My Summertime Thang”. The next installment of the mini-doc will be released on 4/3 and will feature covers of songs by Funkadelic, The Ohio Players and The Beatles’ “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.”
