Pretty Lights visited the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco this Friday with supporting acts DJ Shadow, Marty Party, and Paul Basic in what ended up being a floor-to-ceiling sold out show of Glitch Hop, Dubstep, and lasers galore. It’s hard to say if the already sizeable indoor auditorium could hold a single extra person as people packed it in all the way up to the top rows.
From the time PL took the stage to the end of the show, the audience was in non-stop groove mode to the sounds of his unique blend of Dubstep, Hip-Hop, and Glitch that left the SF crowd begging for more. But it wasn’t just San Franciscans in attendance – as a few concert-goers I spoke with had come from as far as Oregon to witness the living legend, DJ Shadow, play alongside one of the most innovative names in music today, Pretty Lights. Among some of the tracks played were “I Can See It In Your Face”, a nasty downtempo “PL vs. Radiohead vs. Nirvana vs NIN” mashup, “Hot Like Sauce,” and an epic encore of “I Know the Truth” that had the crowd banging down the walls. We all hope to see Pretty Lights return to SF soon and hopefully with the likes of the amazing DJ Shadow again.
