Comes a Time: Tribute to Jerry

Update: Rolling Stone has a blurb up about it.

Since I can’t think of a proper opening paragraph to this post, let me just say this: I’m extremely jealous of those fortunate enough to have attended this weekend’s Comes a Time to .

For those of may not have heard about this, the night’s festivities included former Dead members , , Bill Kreuztmann, Donna Jean Godchaux and , along , , Gloria , , David Nelson, Sandy Rothman, , , members of the , , and Billy Nershi — and members Kenny Brooks, , , and Robin .

And apparently it didn’t disappoint. If anyone who reads this was there and wouldn’t mind posting some thoughts in the comments section below, enlighten us. We’d love to hear from you.

  1. I was there. It was an epic tribute to a legend. Obviously a true delight seeing the two guitarists (IMHO) who have done the most to further this scene and keep Jerry’s musical spirit alive and well (Trey and Warren), playing Jerry’s songs, together.

I was beat thoguh after 6 hours of music and wonder how my poor body is going to hold up at Vegoose.

  2. Nice, Ethan, glad to hear (well, sorry to hear about da foots — get well soon). I would have loved to be in that audience, but hey, NYC has had it’s fair share of cool shiite the last few years.

If I may ask, how was the Hornsby/Trey Standing on the Moon? I have been lucky enough to see Bruce three times in the last six months and every time I’m blown away more than the last. I hope those two get in a studio or hit the road for some fun.

Trey, Hornsby, Bobby on rhythm, Medeski on organ, Fish on drums — this isn’t out of the realm of possiblities at all, is it? Now they’re all connected…get someone like Vic Wooten on bass, and you have yourselves a SICK touring band.

  3. I first found the Dead at the Suwannee Music Park, Further Fest 2001. Ever since then I have tirelessly drenched myself in all things Dead. Never have I been as satisfied at any of The Other Ones, The Dead, Phil & Friends, RatDog, Dark Star, etc…shows as I was at this one. Its hard to put into words, but it all came together for one night. For someone who never saw Jerry its hard to go to these shows and not feel empty as it must be for those who saw Jerry. But for one night it wasn’t about him not being there, it was about all of those who were there basking in the handprint that he left on our lives. What a night!!!!
