For the third night of Yo La Tengo‘s annual Hanukkah run at the Bowery Ballroom, the band welcomed special guests Sun Ra Orchestra and comedian David Cross as their main openers.
Here’s what the band laid down.
Watch some fan shot clips and highlights from the show below.
yo la tengo hanukkah night #3 setlist, with gnarly trio jams & a half-set with the @SunRaUniverse horns, including what i think was the 1st ever hanukkah version of daniel johnston's "speeding motorcycle" https://t.co/rz8Q31Qlrt pic.twitter.com/SbEhEHxSmV

Jews Put on Variety Show in Chinatown on Xmas Eve. . Seems like I picked the right night to finally check out one of @therealylt 's traditional 8-night Hannukkah residency shows after all these many many years. Surprise guests for night 3 were the Sun Ra Arkestra, the actual greatest band in the world, led by 95 year old #marshallallen 🙏🏻✊🏼, and Rabbi Alvin Sugarman (aka Tobias Funke) answering audience questions about Judaism ✡️. YLT did a nice set with 6 (of 15) Arkestra members on horns, which included covers of Daniel Johnston's 'Speeding Motorcycle', the Beach Boys' 'Little Honda' and Sun Ra's 'Dreaming' and 'Nuclear War'. Merry Christmassssss, everybody! #yolatengo #sunraarkestra #sunra #davidcross #hannukkah #jews #showbusiness #chinesefood #christmas #soldout
