I know it’s an age-old debate that might not be worth bringing up, but looking at the list of the top grossing concerts during 2005 is like looking at the list of some of the greediest, musicians you’ll ever see…
Here are the Top 20 Touring Artists of 2005. The first dollar amount is the total gross is in millions of U.S. dollars for all dates worked in North America. The second dollar amount is the artists’ average ticket price.

This list just makes me want to puke for a couple reasons. $160 a ticket for Barry Manilow? Who the hell does he think he is, but more so, is his crew that expensive or what? This always just looks like pure greed to me. I don’t know why we (the live music attending audience) would ever put up with s*** like that. Someone that knows the business–please correct me if I’m wrong here. I know it’s not inflation…
So obviously, I (nor a majority of my readers) would never put up with anything like this.
But wait, how much would be too much for a Phish reunion? I know my price…
Another way to look at the list is the lowest average ticket price … Green Day and Tom Petty at just over $38 are second to Rascal Flatts. These are the best shows to see if you want value for your money :-)
Actually, I saw Green Day’s show at the San Francisco Warfield for about $45. Considering they opened for themselves (in disguise as the band The Network), played the full American Idiot album, then another … uhh … 20 songs, it falls to #1 on my list of best shows for the year, and it was a good value!

Yeah, dude…same thing happened to me with the Eagles. $100 was my limit, so those $104 tickets were just out of my reach…

my price for celine dion this year was only $133.99… unfortuatley, thats where i drew my line, so i missed her over $2.05… so it goes…
