Summer Camp 2008 Lineup | moe.’s Midwest Fest

We’re going to continue our festival catch-up fest here at LMB and keep on posting some staples that we’ve been neglecting. What better way to continue the fun than to post about moe’s annual Midwestern party, Summer Camp. The band will be returning to good ol’ Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, IL on May 23 – 25 with a festival lineup featuring some interesting additions (New Pornos, the Roots, Blind Melon), plenty of old-standbys (Umphrey’s, TLG), along with three nights of moe. Lineup highlights include:

Man, three days of moe. and two of Umphrey’s McGee makes me say “Oh my guitar!” Of course, Summer Camp’s always got that slant towards bands of the jammier variety. But this is a pretty interesting lineup for a festival so steeped in the jam-rock standards and Midwestern bands. I like seeing bands like New Pornographers continuing to hit the festival stages to show the jam kids how f***in’ great a succinct and well-written rock song can sound. The guitar wankfest will surely dominate, but this Camp shows promise. And hey, for some reason those Chuck and Al solos do seem to fit nicely with the humid heat of the Midwestern summer and a nice cold brew….so it all works for me.
So what do all you guys think? Anyone hitting this?

I found your blog really interesting. O.A.R. is one of my favorite bands and I didn't even know they were going to be doing this! There are numerous bands in that line-up I have actually heard of and love. Maybe I'll take the trip to Chicago, the windy city.

Great to see people excited about another Summer Camp, and that the non-Jammy additions like New Pornos are being embraced (rather than questioned). Just goes to show that for as many close-minded fans who just want one kind of band, there are even more who want to dig it all.

I Can’t wait for this, but i could do without O.A.R! Last year was a great time, except for the undercover cops, 2 of my buddies got arrested and i have heard plenty of other stories! be careful in the woods!

I really love the new indie music thats comin out. it’s so rockin’ and fab all the new bands like black mountain, new pornographers and the lions I think that they really have a chance to do well. Check out my myspace for my blog.

Summer Camp is such a no brainer if you live in Chicago and like jambands at all. It’s about two hours south and in my experience it always goes well. I’ve gone on two separate occasions. Problem is, I’m a little removed from this little scene and I’m not sure I’d have the same crew of buddies ready to go down there with me to party our nuts off.
