Psychedelic-jam-rockers, Shaky Feelin’ just announced the official release date for their sophomore album, INSIDER MIND as February 27th. The 11-track album will be celebrated with an official Album Release Party at The Crest Theatre in Westwood, CA that same night. It’s a big weekend for the Ventura quintet as they look to follow-up 2013’s The Real Picture with a brand new adventure that’s been three years in the making. Band leader and guitarist, Mark Masson explains “Insider Mind has a well-rounded and versatile feel. We jam and improvise in the live setting a lot but for this I wanted some short-catchy songs. We explored the bluegrass genre in “Heart of Mine” and a more laid-back feel with one of my favorites, ‘Pushed it Away.’”
The album was recorded and mixed in Los Angeles at King Size Soundlabs with Engineer Jon DeBaun at the helm. The album kicks off with the title track and should reassure fans right out of the gate that Shaky’s infectious high-energy jams are still the center-piece of their sound. The combo of Cameron Probe and Paul Menchaca on drums, Jeff Hiller on bass mixed with keyboardist Franklin Murphy has really blossomed in the past two years. Relentless practicing will do that. Masson perked up when speaking on new tunes “Peace of Mind” and “Thunder” saying these should see the most improv as the band settles into the new material. One of the reasons he’s so excited about Shaky’s release party at The Crest is to “watch the songs grow and mature so they can take on a life of their own.” Masson also wanted to note the last track, “Rise Again” which saxophonist Jacob Scesney guests on. Scesney has played with Shaky numerous times so it’s great to see him included on the album.
For the release party, Shaky will be bringing along fellow rockers, Rebel House Radio and Suns of Jimi to open. Artist Kevin Vigil will be painting live throughout the event. Masson hopes the loyal fans, especially those from his home turf of Ventura, can follow the lines going South and support this important release at the historic Crest. The theatre opened in 1941 and in 2008 was designated a Historic Landmark by the city of LA. Following the success of this event, The Spin Cycle and The Crest hope to host more SoCal events of this nature.
Shaky is teasing the release with an exclusive first listen to “Insider Mind.” Hit the play button.
