Phish returns to the road tonight with the first of three nights at Hampton Coliseum in Virginia. We’ll be following along with the setlist as it rolls in and collecting some of our favorite tweets as they hit the internets.

Notes from the sideline:
– Trey was back on the Ocedoc guitar last night; we had a guitarist with us on couch tour that wanted the Summer Tour tone back.
– There was more than a few teases for “The Mango Song” in the first set in between songs; Mike seemed intent on playing it and it never made an appearance.
– “Stash” featured a funny and odd ending that sorta fell short, and right away the band acknowledged it. Trey said something to the effect of “Page thought that was great up until the last note…” — “I think that was Fish’s fault” — so then re-did the ending and had a laugh.
– “Walls of the Cave” did not feature the WOOSH noise that Cactus used to deliver when they did the song in 2.0. I’m fairly confident it has not made a 3.0 appearance yet. #TheWrongWay
– Besides “Twist” — there were no WOO’s last night. Cactus began “Twist” by drumming on his fight bell.
– “Carini” was the first moment where things really stretched out and got into some Type II, but the “Twist > Free > Roggae” segment was “beautiful Phish” at its finest.
– “Run Like an Antelope” seemed a little rushed at times; I’m fairly certain they entered the second part of the song prematurely (even throwing Kuroda off) — but then Trey took a moment to mention Mike’s amazing shoes. They were glowing like they were under blacklights. Hilarious Phish-y moment, considering then that Mike got a solo with a drill — he took an electric drill, played 8 bars or so of buzzy noises, then set it down and they finished off “Antelope” with the “Mike-O Esquandolas” lyrics.
