Jam in the ‘Dam 2007 | Lineup Announced

Milkyway

The (partial) lineup has been announced for Jam in the ‘Dam 2007, the best annual hippie-jamband festival in all of Holland…

Dark Star Orchestra
Yonder Mountain String Band
Keller Williams
Galactic

If you remember from my coverage last year, I had a friggin’ blast and it was truly an experience I’ll never forget. Four of my favorite bands in a tiny, old-school theatre in the middle of Amsterdam — I mean, how could you not have fun?

What do you think of this lineup? I’ll save my thoughts for now; I want to hear comments first…

  1. Do they honestly expect people to fly there for that? I’m not saying it’s gonna be a bad weekend, because it’ll probably be great, but doesn’t it have to be enticing enough to get people across the pond?

That fourth band has to be Umphreys, no?

  3. All eyes are on Umphrey’s McGee as they’ve been behind the lineups in the past…

I’m still of the mindset that Dark Star Orchestra is a Dead-cover band — regardless of how they actually play, sound, *feel*, etc. — making them a cover band and therefore hardly unimpressive using certain standards.

Not to turn this into a “is Dark Star Orchestra a cover band or the real deal?” discussion…

I’d have to say that this is simply *unimpressive* in my eyes.

Sorta the same way I feel about the Vegoose lineup, actually…oh well, they can’t all be winners.

  5. vegoose at least has the mars volta and praxis. f*** some dso and galactic, and you KNOW umphreys will be there… boring as hell.

  7. defeinitely lackluster… don’t know that i would even drive more than a few hours for that line-up. too bad…

  8. Yonder Mountain String Band is the 4th band according to Jambands, and this year JitD is a 25 year celebration of the Grateful Dead at Melkweg, so I guess that makes the DSO choice more understandable.

Personally I would rather see Yonder and Keller than Particle and the Disco Biscuits, so different strokes for different folks. Hell it’s Amsterdam, it will be a fun time!

  10. This lineup blows. I didn’t get a chance to go last year, when my favorite bands on the scene were there… But was already saving up to go this year.

Well, I’m still gonna go to Amsterdam, but hell if I’m going to pay for this sorry line-up.

    Dark Star = Coverband
Keller = SO BORING. Who really enjoys Keller concerts? The man is a great musician, but his stuff is so gimmicky, it’s just SO BLAND.
Galactic = fine, but they certainly don’t have the drawing power that say, UM would have with me, or Benevento/Russo.

Summing it up= This lineup sucks.

  12. I went last year and had a blast. This lineup doesn’t seem to nearly pack the wallop as JitD 05 but like someone said earlier it’s about Dead music so there you go.

  14. why celebrate 25 years of the grateful dead at melkweg? can’t say i have ever seen dark star, but im sure not flying across the pond for them. keller williams is absolutely boring, whoever described him as gimmicky got it right. ymsb is fun, but again, not worth flying for. and that leaves galactic. i love galactic, but since house mans departure, i have yet to see or hear a really good show. they almost seem to have become a coverband of their former selves… i had seriuosly considered this, but not after seeing this lineup, maybe next year.

  16. Well, I was at the Jam in the Dam in 06′ got to say it was da bomb. killer shows, beno ruso was lame, just two bums on a drum. Other than that worth flying out for. But Yonder is the Sh!t, Galactic is perfect for that atmosphere, but keller I’ve seen so many times its just the same old story just him, and the dead cover band, I mean come on, at least get a talking heads cover band. its Amsterdam y’all get high but not worth the flight

  20. A dream of mine will be PRAXIS without a doubt, one of the most exteme special bizarre good progressive psychadelic fusion band of the moment. Buckethead is a guitar hero, Boostie is a freak, Bernie is a genius and Bill is just amaizing … I hope my dream comes true in 2007
