UPDATE: the band has been forced to reschedule their Fillmore NOLA opening run “due to band member injury” and this event has now been fully cancelled. :(
The Foo Fighters will be helping to open up the newest incarnation of The Fillmore in New Orleans, and to celebrate this kickoff, the band have assembled their Krewe du Foo and Broken Hearts Social Club Parade to roll Feb. 14 kicking off the grand opening weekend of The Fillmore at Harrah’s Casino. While the press release said this makes the band the first in history to lead its own Mardi Gras parade through downtown New Orleans, that can’t be true — even Arcade Fire has their own — we’re still excited to see this happen.
The band will be performing two sold-out shows at The Fillmore Feb. 15 and 16 to inaugurate the venue opening, and if you’re in the area you’ll probably want to drop in and catch these shows. We’re seeing they’ll be welcoming friends like Trombone Shorty and Orleans Ave, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and DJ Raj Smoove, with Krewes Camel Toe Lady Steppers and Rolling Elvi joining Alice Harte Marching Band, Martin Luther King Jr. Marching Band and many others for this parade party, so I’m guessing some of those artists will be showing up on the two night run at the Fillmore, too.
And ooooh … “limited edition Krewe du Foo and Fillmore throws will be flying as the parade rolls.”
Parade route starts at 7 p.m. on Howard Ave, proceeds past Lee Circle, down St. Charles Avenue, then hits Canal Street to end at The Fillmore entrance at Harrah’s Casino.
The Krewe du Foo and the Broken Hearts Social Club Parade will conclude at Harrah’s New Orleans. Masquerade Nightclub will host the official post-parade party, “Broken Hearts Social” on Valentine’s Day evening. This is a free concert featuring Left of Centre, and Foo Fighters play the next two nights.
