After Animal Collective treated “fans” to an unannounced unveiling of their new album at the Baltimore airport last week, the band has kicked off our Monday with a confirmed album title, release date, and a new single called “FloriDada”. Listen to the track below:

The single is the first track off the band’s new LP, Painting With, due out on Domino Records on February 19, 2016. At first glance, you may notice that Deakin is absent from the cover art ideas shown above, and the press release confirms that the trio that recorded Merriweather Post Pavilion — Avey Tare, Geologist and Panda Bear — are the ones behind this new release. No word on whether Deakin is out for good or what’s what, as he was a major part of the Centipede Hz album and tours that followed.

Working as a trio, Portner (Avey Tare), Lennox (Panda Bear) and Brian Weitz (Geologist) began trading demos in early 2015, pursuing a goal of what Portner calls “really short songs: no B.S, get in, get out material…” The three met up in Asheville during that Spring and began exploring the songs together. Recording took place in the legendary EastWest Studios in Hollywood, home to sessions by The Beach Boys and Marvin Gaye.

Also interesting is the quick mention of who else was involved:

The album features contributions from John Cale and Colin Stetson, and was engineered by Sonny DiPerri.
