With Phish choosing new covers each night at part of their donut themes for The Baker’s Dozen, announcing night #10’s theme as HOLES now points almost too perfectly at any song that would start like this…

It’s actually almost too perfect.

And it helps that The Wire is a show I’ve gotten through a few times now, always showing me a different side of the characters the series created and always teaching me a few things or two about human nature that I tend to forget sometimes. If fans didn’t immediately recall that this could be a cover option tonight, they probably lit up remembering it as the theme song to The Wire. And it’s a show that holds up so well on rewatching, and the same is true for the show opener last night at Madison Square Garden.

Loved all the Wire meme tweets we were seeing, too.
