On Thursday night Greensky Bluegrass added another barn burner to their Southern California resume playing The Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA to a near sold-out crowd. The Michigan natives are no strangers to LA, working their way up from The Mint to the Troubadour in the past few years. The show was heavy on covers including “Jambalaya (On The Bayou)”, dedicated to the late Chef Larry and his wife who recently passed away at their home in Pasadena, CA. Dobro-master, Anders Beck introduced the Hank Williams tune with a heartfelt story on how Chef Larry would always welcome the band with his New Orleans cooking.

In the first set, GSBG sandwiched a “Tweezer Reprise” tease in the middle of “Light Up Or Leave Me Alone”, covered Jimi Hendrix’s “Wind Cries Mary”, and in the second, Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” and Prince’s “When Doves Cry.” This certainly didn’t take away from the band’s support on their latest, If Sorrows Swim performing “Wings for Wheels” and “Forget Everything” to a crowd already dialed in to the lyrics.

Besides the grab bag of covers, the musical highlight of the night was a near 20-minute version of “All Four”, a stellar track off their 2011 album, Handguns. Greensky Bluegrass heads up the coast to close out their Fall Tour in style with a two-night stand in San Francisco at The Fillmore on Friday and Saturday.
